Below are different ways you can take action to help Liam

Donor testing is confidential and handled by the Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) transplant team, independent of Liam. Many people reach out just to learn more. You can pause or stop at any time.

Start here (confidential): VGH Living Donor Program at kidneydonornurse@vch.ca or 604.875.5182.

Optional: You can also contact Liam directly at liam.kerney@gmail.com | 604-764-8543.

For privacy reasons, the VGH donor team does not inform Liam about who contacts them or who is being tested. You may choose to tell Liam directly, or keep the entire process confidential.

Consider Donor Testing

Many living donors learn about donation through someone they trust. Sharing Liam’s story can help it reach the right person, even if donation isn’t right for you.

You can share Liam’s story in whatever way feels comfortable to you:

  • Send the link to a friend, colleague, or family member

  • Share it by email, text, or messaging apps

  • Post it on social media

  • Simply mention it in conversation and point someone to the site

Taking the time to share means a great deal to Liam, and helps this reach people who might otherwise never see it.

Share Liam’s Story

Living kidney donation is a well-established procedure in which a healthy person donates one kidney and lives fully with the other. Without a living donor Liam would require years of dialysis while waiting for a deceased donor and carries serious health risks and would greatly limit his quality of life. Living donation is a common procedure, with more than 35,000 living donor kidney transplants performed worldwide each year.

See About Living Donation for more information and FAQs, read the stories of recent Living Donor Heroes, or learn more from the BC Transplant Program.

For more specific questions, you can contact the Living Donor program at VGH at kidneydonornurse@vch.ca or 604.875.5182.
